Week 5 Story to share ...

Went down to ACTIONPRENEUR together with the combined team Super Dunamis Glue to negotiate an opportunity to collaborate with them to mount an activity.

The many sessions in preparation paid off (somewhat lah, xx hor ?) as many of the questioned they posted to the team was already rehearsed.

Such mixed feelings of joy and worry immediately after the meeting because they gave the team such an invaluable opportunity to *really* get involved ... and any non-kuku NP student would know that this is common test period ... this is *the* stressed period (2nd only to exam period and for some others, their *MS) ...

I had a very emotional debrief with the team because I can clearly see the sparkle in each of their eyes ... especially Johnny's which sparkled brightest !

I am certain this little experience has made all the anxiety and preparation feel worthwhile ... now moving on to bigger challenges ... and with renewed inspiration to improve on what was done previously ....

... and this is what I mean, an I&E journey .... bon voyage !

Week 5 I'm so blurr ?!!!

Hi Class,

I'm really so sorry, I was seriously not aware that this is already Week 5 ? I did say that I wanted to meet up with everyone on Week 6 with their laptops but I am aware that you would seriously appreciate time to pick up some last minute studies, right ?

So, let me be a nice guy and e-meet with as many of you that needs my advice. For the rest of you who have not done your submissions for IELS I will make you come down to school just to get it done ... so, to save yourself the trip ... cooperate with me hngah ...

OK, that's all. All the best in your common test !!

Kisses,
Max

Week 4: Some jokes to share..

These jokes are from my AAA tutor, Mr Tan. lol, enjoy...

A chinese man went into a bar and drink
then he saw the famous director steven spillberg
he asked for a carlsberg from spillberg
but got a punch from him
the chinaman got up and ask why ?
spillberg said, "my grandmother died during pearl habour"
china man said "but i'm not japanese"
Spillberg says, "vietnamese, chinese, japanese they are all the same"
the chinese gave a punch to him after that
Spillberg asked why
the chinese said " my grandmother died on Titanic"
Spillberg asked "what's that got to do with me?"
he said "Spillberg, Carlsberg, Icebergs they are all the same. "

A playboy had a father dying, his father is very rich. The father's dying wish was to get him settle down, so he said "sonnie, if u get settle down, you will inherit all my wealth." So he went to the pub and saw this very pretty girl, and on the spot he decided that she's gonna be his wife. He told her the plan that he will split the wealth equally after his father's death. Then, the girl asked him to bring her back home to see his dying father. The next morning, the playboy got a stepmother.

A dying rich man wants his wealth bury with him, so he got his wife to do it, "dear, when i die, put all my wealth with me in my coffin." His wife promised him. At the wake, friends and relatives asked her if she had done what she've promised. "
"yup, i transfer all his money to my account and i issued him a cheque, the cheque is in the coffin now."

week 1 (very belated)

Ok this is a leeetle beeet late but better late than never ;)

Since some of you are curious about what I do, let me lift the veil of secrecy a little.

The title I have on my namecard is “Educational Technologist.” I'm still figuring out what means. What I know is that I’m from the Teaching & Learning Centre (TLC) of NP, and I sometimes teach NP lecturers how to use technology to torture their students in their teaching. Lecturers also come to me to ask for ideas and advice on their lessons, and what technologies they could use. And when new lecturers come to NP, they have to go through some training on how to teach. I’ll be there giving them a hard time by asking them difficult questions. I love asking difficult questions, as some of you might have found out by now.

And yes, I am rather evil. hurhurhur.

Week 3 what i hope to achieve

Week 3 Wad mianyang wants to acheive

To have the experience of planning a big event.
Abel to face the many kinds of difficulties and obstacles, and learn how to solve them. (not running away =X)
The ability to get things moving.

It's wonderful working with ElPaM.

and most importantly, have FUNNNN!(:

Week 3 wad i hope to achieve

ok...here is wad i hope to achieve.

i wan to have the experience of gg through the process of planning something i noe everyone in my grp will enjoy even if it does not go that well in the end.

i wan to feel the achievement of planning an event n making it go smoothly.

i wan to be able to plan other events n noe wad to do if sumthin goes wrong.

wad i dun wan to achieve....

i dun wanna noe the feeling of failing becoz i wan this event to be a great success for Elpam!!!

lol!!!!!

Week 3 - Hui Nee hopes to achieve...

What I really want to achieve from Elpam is gg to do is the experience, the process tt one have to go through during the planning/organising of the event like sitting down n brainstorming for ideas for games, how it should be carried out to its best n how to coordinate everything altogether. To learn from this experience n to be able to organise a better event the next time. and of cuz, the satisfaction gained from the success of an event tt u organise.

If this is what u call textbook answer, then I dunno wad to say le.. cuz it's really wad I hope to achieve, be it txtbk ans or not.

Week 3 What I hope to achieve ...

Hi folks, it seems like the extra time spent to create the bonding has paid off ... but I guess i should not assume everyone is able to reach the same point of understanding as quickly as others ... please remember that's what I'm around for, so those of you who needs help, please come tok to me, OK ?

For week 3, I hope you'll blog a little more about what you hope to achieve through mounting the activity you've planned ... I hope to hear from everyone of you, so if you will please give me the sincere answers and not the textbook kind of answers, OK ? ... and if you've really nothing to hope for, I'd rather you *not* cook something up ...

Week 2 I&E is about Attitude ... Attitude Is Everything

by: Brian Cavanaugh, T.O.R., A Cup of Chicken Soup for the Soul

Jerry was the kind of guy you love to hate. He was always in a good mood and always had something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, "If I were any better, I would be twins!"

He was a unique manager because he had several waiters who had followed him around from restaurant to restaurant. The reason the waiters followed Jerry was because of his attitude. He was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerry and asked him, "I don't get it! You can't be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?" Jerry replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, 'Jerry, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood.' I choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life."

"Yeah, right, it's not that easy," I protested. "Yes, it is," Jerry said. "Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It's your choice how you live life."

I reflected on what Jerry said. Soon thereafter, I left the restaurant industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.

Several years later, I heard that Jerry did something you are never supposed to do in a restaurant business: he left the back door open one morning and was held up at gunpoint by three armed robbers. While trying to open the safe, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination. The robbers panicked and shot him. Luckily, Jerry was found relatively quickly and rushed to the local trauma center. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets still in his body.

I saw Jerry about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, "If I were any better, I'd be twins. Wanna see my scars?" I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place. "The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door," Jerry replied. "Then, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live, or I could choose to die. I chose to live." "Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?" I asked. Jerry continued, "The paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the emergency room and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read, 'He's a dead man.' "I knew I needed to take action."

"What did you do?" I asked.

"Well, there was a big, burly nurse shouting questions at me," said Jerry.

"She asked if I was allergic to anything. 'Yes,' I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breathe and yelled, 'Bullets!' Over their laughter, I told them. 'I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead." Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully. Attitude, after all, is everything.

Week 2 What I & E is not...

HMMM i tink~~~

I&E is not a module for us to stress abt!
Its for us to relax!!
I&E is not for the result
Its for the process!!
I&E is not abt individual
Its about TEAM!!
I&E is not abt studying
Its abt being creative and innovative =P...

Wednesday, May 10, 2006

Week 2: what I & E is not

I & E is not a module about ...

1. memorising and trying to get a good grade for it.

2. working alone

3. not a module whereby u have to do tutorials

more importantly, its about working with your team mates, putting differences aside to excel in the job.

Week 2 Max says ... In case some of you still lost ...

Please click here to find out what you're supposed to do http://iea2006-2007.blogspot.com/2006/05/week-2-blog-about-what-i-e-is-not.html#links

Week 2 What I&E is NOT - Challenger's version

i juz realised muz blog bout wad InE is not...hmmmm

InE is not....
1] about boring lessons about the history n definition of innovation n enterprise(hated that in CATS class!!!)
2]about how well u work alone but how well u work as a team
3]about thinking whithin constraints n boundaries
4]asking questions on wad to do but to ask qns on HOW to realise an idea.

that is all i can tink of...hehe...lazy to tink of other reasons...

Week 2 wad i tink i & e ish not...

hmm~...I & E is a module...tat cannot score AD de lors...hahah`..as simple as tat...as to wad i tink I & E is not..i have to continue to go on this "journey" to find out wad it is not abt...

but i can confirm one thing...our I & E ish definitely not a boring klazz to be in!!!

^5

bryan`

Week 2 What is I/E?! *NOT*

Definately something not similar to our other modules, where we got to memorise so many things till we go nuts.. rushing projects due for submission, preparing for quizzes which r almost every wk, common tests, exams... omg die la = X

It's a much more fun relaxing way of learning and doing things.
Letting our creativity get the better of us n come up withcrazy but fun ideas/activity... etc etc..
Well of course there is a date due for submission of projects, but it's not as tedious as our other modules (a gd thing hehe..)
er.. but learn about wad?!
I guess we'll have find the answer at the end of this module won't we?? :P
In the meantime, lets all have a fun n enjoyable time. :D

Week 2 What I&E is not

hmm..

I&E is not a module whereby u need to memorise everything from bulky textbook

is not a module where there's so many tutorial questions to be done every single week

is not a super slack module

n lastly, I&E is not a boring module

=)

Week 2 - What I & E is NOT

I & E is not..
a lecture, tutorial, practical module.
a study-for-exam get good grades module.. more of hands on/planning etc.
a sit-down-n-wait-for-things-to-happen module. u'll have to make things happen, the way u want it.

Saturday, May 06, 2006

Week 2 What I&E is NOT - Munying's version

I & E is not a module of text. No nid to memorise stuff. I & E is not supposed to be a boring module. ^^ I & E is not...... ermz. I & E is not all work n no fun. =)))

Friday, May 05, 2006

Week 2 xx- what I&E is not:

lallalaa. what I&E is not? i dun really understand what this question means but here's what i think:

I&E Is not abcdfghjklmnopqrstuvwxyz.

I&E Is not alphabEt 'I' and 'E'.

I&E Is not gradEablE.

I&E Is not fIxatIon and lazInEss.

I&E Is not In my antI-modulE lIst.

I&E Is not NOThing.

Week 2 I agree...

at the end of the day, we learn stuff and had a great deal of fun, but pls rmb that we are the learning team, from start, Max said "learning", towards the end, becomes "losing"... haha, nvm... it's just a name though.

Week 2 - IE in AAACCCCCTTTTTIIIIOOOOOOONNNN *siong ah*

Games are a depiction of what goes on on life, where there are winners and there are also those who do not win ... but it is not just about winning, we learn to put the team before ourselves and even from that draw new insights about ourselves ... Just as in life, there're many rules, so rules in game play define boundaries to which we may compete. We all learn that rules are not necessarily fair ... the team that received the broken egg did not have a choice ... just like opportunities, if not seized, we are left with only broken eggs to make the best out of ... we learn much by oberving others and improvising from what others have done ... apply these skills in your I&E adventure ... you won't go far off ... continue with just one mindset, play as a team to win ...

The Lover's Summit Challenge.
It's not just about how well I'm able to climb, but as a pair how do we ensure that we both reach the same destination
"Oh no!!! I'm being blocked !!!" In life obstacles do appear, the way we overcome obstacles is a demonstration of our creativity.

Monster's Challenge.
As a team, those that are stronger always makes the biggest sacrifices. In life, those that are able to make the most significant, worthwhile and timely sacrifices are the true heros of life.

Thinking differently only gets you thus far, to truly succeed, it's also about doing things differently and persevering ... it's about initiative, being resourceful and being determined ...

Love Me Tender Throw Far Far
The physically strongest may not always translates to being the best, just as being physically attractive does not spell natural success. We do not deny that there are natural advantages in being strong, just as there are natural advantages in being physically attractive ... in life, being thorough, being careful, plan and strategise makes a difference ...

Songs of the Strinking (Thanks Cancer7788) Shrinking Island
It's not just about MY talents, I may sing a 100 songs, but my team members MUST sing the same songs as me ...

Sometimes singing the simplest songs or taking the simplest approach, but doing it as a team makes the winning strikes ... many times in life, I win simply because the team wins ....

It's still about relationships ...

... beyong winning and losinglearning, it's still about friendship .... it's still about relationships ...

Week 2 What I & E is not

Hey you all,
what do you guys suggest abt changes being made to this blog?
i had feedbacks abt it being plain.
If anyone of you have great ideas pls email me : belovedbev@gmail.com

ps: im really not expert at this html thing. Im honoured that Max thot so well of me but dont be deceived by him! haha anyw, we were the learning definitely the journey was worth more than the games itself. :)

As suggested by what I & E stands for, i believe this module is definitely not something mundane and expected. Not expected in the sense of a certain type of inculcation eg. academic persuits.
It is not just about going through the motions.
It is not to let this experience be lost for what it is worth to you and not anyone else.

Week 2 Blog about what I & E IS NOT ...

Yeap, thanks for the fun and games that we had to better foster team bonding. Thanks for being sporting and doing all the crazy things together. It's sad that there are losers learning memebrs ... but as the game goes, two members must inter-swap as agreed.

Alright, for Week 2, this is the blogging title "What I think I & E IS NOT .." no right or wrong answers, just your own ones ...

Please remember the following:
1. We're meeting up at innoSpark as per the previous lesson (blk 25 level 1)
2. Be prepared to share about an activity you plan to mount to nurture your I & E learning journey.
3. Check out this link "Create activities with friends
Submit your ideas with the SHINE-Young ChangeMakers Grant Form"
or visit http://www.shine.youth.sg/bepartofus.php
4. Visit MEL->IELS and see if you can see the 3 documents:
a. Idea Creation
b. Synopsis
c. Workplan

Teams that has not done Team Formation will not be able to see anything.

Bye *friendly waves*

Week 1 Thankyou from Munying

Thanks for voting.... we really appreciated it. Too many thanks le actually, but erm, juz signs of appreciation. I & E should be a fun module and it should not be a module with many confinements. Although the need for socialization with other sch mates is necessary, it is also necessary to be able to come up with a fun and interesting project for I & E. =) Have fun n see u all in school!

Week 1 Lionel's Thankyou

HEY everyone!!! Lionel here!!! again....

well...juz wanna sae a very very big thank you to all whu voted n all whu are about to vote. be it u agree or disagree.

i personally face the same problems during CATS. the only time i can really put in all my time to a certain project is wen it is whithin my class. we all end the same time and start at the same time so we can really find time. at CATS class, onli a fren n i was frm LSCT n the other 3 gals were frm BS. wen we could make it, they had letcures n tutorials esp one subject...OCOM i tink...BECOZ OF THAT.....we always cannot find a certain time to meet.. becauz of that, our marks for the presentation was kinda low...hehe

so i hope u ppl will vote as not voting constitutes to a NO!!!

so pls pls pls vote k??

thanks again to all whu voted n cya all tml. may it be a great day tml n we enjoy ourselves tml!!!

Week 1 - Hui Nee's Thank You

Hui Nee here once again.

a big THANK YOU to all who voted.
Thank you for understanding the situation we are in, for I believe most of u have met with this kind of situation b4. for I believe that even students from the same school dun really have chances to work with each other especially when u are of a different course, different class.. n when IS classes comes in, we are given an opportunity to work together. Of course, being able to work with ppl from other schools may be good, but there will be timetable clashes n communication breakdown etc.. so we are just trying to get our chance of working together as a team. Afterall, we might not be in the same IS class again in the remaining time that we are going to spend in NP.(we haven been in the same class b4.. nor have we work together in a team b4.)

Thank You.

Week 1 Mee Returns

It's me again. Here saying THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the voting. =D

Week 1 - Challenger's call for votes

============================Attention=================================
Hey ppl... lionel here...as u read in the previous entry, our grp consist of 4 LSCT ppl. my teammate, yimian, has come out with a few reasons to convince u all to allow us to stay as a grp.

but it all comes down to you ppl,our classmates. we may not noe each other that well but i beseech you all to vote for a yes at the comments area at the post that Max posted.

i hope that you all will help us n vote a yes so that we can stay as a grp n not split up, but if you feel that this IS unfair, you can always put a "NO" there but plsssssssssssssss vote. if u dun vote, it will be taken as a no. we are all ngee ann students n i sincerely hope that you all can help us. on behalf of my whole team, i thank you all for voting.

Week 1 Reasons given for not having a mixed team ...

Hi folks,

I am aware that we have more students from BA than from LSCT, as such, there will inevitably be a team where all the members are from BA, but this group wanted to be together by choice. Herewith is the reasons they have given. Please leave me a comment whether you agree or not (by default, I'm assuming everyone disagrees) if there are enough people who sympathizes with them, I'll take it that there is acceptanec of their choice ...

1. We have not worked with each other before and wanted to see how well we can work with each other. (Would be of great use for future projects in our faculty).

2. If there is any last min decision made, we’ll be able to get to the other members in person. (not smsing, email or msn)

3. It would be easier to organize/arrange meetings or even meet up to discuss projects. (Personal experience last yr for CATS, I’m not able to get all the members when we decided to meet up for discussion. Resulting in many problems. A once bitten twice shy kind of thing.)

4. Since we are all from LSCT, we will be able to see (no other communications involved) each other frequently, compared to when we work with other students from other courses/faculty. We don’t see them at all. So when we see each other, there maybe some last minute revision (a very quick one) on what is to be done. There maybe less miscommunication.

5. Continue from the number 4, it would be better to be able to talk about the subject (I/E, the projects, etc) rather than totally not thinking of the subject till the next lesson is near.
